ECM-P003A16 - Turbocharger/Supercharger Boost Control A Position Exceeded Learning Limit. General Electrical Failures. Circuit voltage below threshold
System
Engine Control Module (ECM)
Volvo models this fault code applies to
Applies to the following models:
2 modelsS80 (2007–), V70 (2008–)
Show models by year and engine (2)
What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module uses the turbo control valve to keep the correct boost pressure in the inlet manifold. It compares the signal from the turbo position sensor with how the turbo is being commanded, and here the signal is too low for that position.
Possible causes
- Vacuum hoses are leaking
- The turbo control valve is sticking
- The turbo control valve is damaged
- The position sensor is damaged
What you can do
- 1Start the engine and read the fault code with a diagnostic tool, noting whether it is active now or only stored
- 2Check the vacuum hoses to the turbo control valve for cracks, loose connections and leaks
- 3Check the connector at the turbo position sensor for looseness, corrosion and oxidation
- 4With a multimeter, check that the position sensor wiring has no open circuit and no short to ground
- 5Have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check the movement of the turbo control valve and whether the position sensor gives the correct signal
Symptoms you may notice2
- The Check engine (malfunction indicator) lamp lights up
- Other warning lamps or warning chimes may also be triggered
