What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module angles the turbo guide rails using readings from the position sensor and continually works out new adaptation limits. If these values differ too much from the factory adaptation, or from an adaptation made with a diagnostic tool, the code is set. Although the code is labelled as a bus or message fault, it concerns the turbo adaptation.
Possible causes
- The vacuum hose to the turbo control has cracked or come loose
- The turbo position sensor is not showing the correct position
- The mechanism that angles the guide rails has jammed
What you can do
- 1Check the vacuum hoses to and from the turbo control valve for blockage, condensation and dirt, and make sure nothing has come loose
- 2Examine the hose for cracks or leaks
- 3With a diagnostic tool, activate the turbo control at idle and see whether the turbo position sensor responds. If it does not, it may need replacing
- 4Troubleshoot the position sensor connector and wiring for looseness, oxidation, open circuit and short to ground using a multimeter
- 5Have a workshop check that the turbo guide rails move freely and that the adaptation passes. If the turbocharger is replaced, the workshop must adapt the turbo system
- 6Test drive the car under different loads, clear the code and check whether it comes back
Symptoms you may notice1
- Poor performance and lack of power when driving
What the fault can affect1
- The engine control module does not use the new adaptation values
General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
