What does this fault code mean?
The variable intake cam profile is controlled by one valve per bank. Here the intake manifold pressure is higher than expected for bank 1, which in this function covers cylinders 1, 2 and 4.
Possible causes
- Dirty or damaged cam profile solenoid
- Blocked oil passages for the variable cam profile
What you can do
- 1Read the fault code with a diagnostic tool and note whether it is active now or only stored
- 2If you have a diagnostic tool, activate the cam profile solenoid for bank 1 and see whether it responds
- 3Check the connector and wiring to the bank 1 solenoid for looseness, corrosion and damage
- 4Impurities or cast debris in the oil can make the solenoid stick. Cleaning is usually enough, but a workshop should do it because the solenoid has to be removed
- 5Replace the solenoid if the fault remains after two cleanings
Symptoms you may notice4
- Malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) lights up
- Uneven idle
- Engine is hard to start
- Poor performance
What the fault can affect1
- Both banks of the variable cam profile end up in low lift
