What does this fault code mean?
The intake cam profile control (A) is not working as it should on bank 2, which covers cylinders 3, 5 and 6. Intake manifold pressure is higher than expected for bank 2 compared with bank 1.
Possible causes
- Dirty or damaged cam profile solenoid
- Blocked oil passages for the variable cam profile
What you can do
- 1Read the fault code with a diagnostic tool and see whether it is active or only stored
- 2If you have a diagnostic tool, activate the bank 2 solenoid and check that it responds
- 3Check the connector and wiring to the bank 2 solenoid for looseness, corrosion and damage
- 4Impurities or cast debris in the oil can make the solenoid stick. Cleaning is usually enough, but a workshop should do it because the solenoid is removed
- 5Replace the solenoid if the fault remains after two cleanings
Symptoms you may notice4
- Malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) lights up
- Uneven idle
- Engine is hard to start
- Poor performance
What the fault can affect1
- Both banks of the variable cam profile end up in low lift
