What does this fault code mean?
The intake variable cam profile has stuck on bank 2, which covers cylinders 3, 5 and 6. Intake manifold pressure is lower than expected for bank 2 compared with bank 1.
Possible causes
- The bank 2 cam profile solenoid is dirty or damaged
- The oil passages to the variable cam profile on bank 2 are blocked
What you can do
- 1Start the engine and read off the diagnostic tool whether the fault code is active now
- 2If you have a diagnostic tool, check that the bank 2 solenoid responds when activated
- 3Check the connector on the bank 2 solenoid for corrosion and loose contacts
- 4Impurities and cast debris in the oil can make the solenoid stick. Cleaning is usually enough and is carried out by a workshop
- 5If the fault returns after two cleanings, the solenoid should be replaced
Symptoms you may notice5
- Malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) lights up
- Idle is uneven
- Engine is difficult to start
- Poor performance
- High fuel consumption
What the fault can affect1
- Both banks of the variable cam profile end up in high lift
