What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module checks the preheating circuit for the rear oxygen sensor, bank 1 sensor 3. The code is set when the circuit is short-circuited to supply voltage, meaning the lead has come into contact with a live wire. The fault can only be detected once the test has started and the conditions are met. Vehicles with two oxygen sensors cannot get this code.
Possible causes
- The preheating supply lead is short-circuited to voltage
- Damaged rear heated oxygen sensor
What you can do
- 1Make sure the fuses are intact. Their locations are on the fuse chart or in the instruction manual
- 2Read the fault status with a diagnostic tool after the diagnostic has run. If it shows active, the fault is still there
- 3Look for abrasion or pinch damage on the sensor lead, where it may have touched a live wire
- 4With a multimeter, check that the lead is not short-circuited to voltage
- 5If the wiring is intact but the fault remains, the rear oxygen sensor may be damaged and need replacing
Symptoms you may notice2
- The malfunction indicator lamp lights up
- The Check engine lamp and other warning lamps may behave abnormally
What the fault can affect2
- The rear oxygen sensor does not preheat
- Control of the rear oxygen sensor is switched off
