What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module monitors the turbo assembly and drives turbo control valve A (wastegate) with a PWM signal. The code is set when the PWM signal is wrong, here when the control signal to the valve is too low.
Possible causes
- The signal lead to turbo control valve A (wastegate) is short-circuited to ground
- Open circuit in the signal lead to turbo control valve A (wastegate)
- Turbo control valve A (wastegate) is short-circuited to ground internally
- Damaged turbo control valve
What you can do
- 1Read the fault code with a diagnostic tool after a test drive, with the engine running and at a certain engine speed
- 2Make sure the fuses are intact. Their location is given in the instruction manual
- 3Check the connector at turbo control valve A (wastegate) for loose connections and corrosion
- 4Inspect the signal lead for chafing, pinch damage and breaks. With a multimeter, check it is not short-circuited to ground and has no open circuit
- 5Have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check turbo control valve A (wastegate) for short circuit to ground and damage
Symptoms you may notice3
- Poor performance and lack of power while driving
- Warning symbol and text message in the display
- The Check engine (malfunction indicator) lamp lights up or behaves abnormally
What the fault can affect1
- Engine torque may be limited
