What does this fault code mean?
The code concerns turbine overspeed, which the engine control module detects when boost pressure in the turbo system becomes too high.
Possible causes
- The vacuum line for turbo control is split or has come off
- The turbo control valve (VNT governor) is damaged
- The turbocharger itself is damaged
- The hoses to or from turbo control valve A (wastegate) or B (bypass) have come loose, are blocked or are damaged
- The guide rails are binding
- The turbo control motor is damaged
What you can do
- 1Read the fault code with a diagnostic tool and note whether it is active or only stored
- 2Make sure the fuses are intact. Their location is in the instruction manual or on the fuse chart
- 3Check the vacuum hoses and the hoses to turbo control valve A (wastegate) and B (bypass) for cracks, loose connections and blockages
- 4Check that the turbo control valve moves freely and is not binding
- 5Have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check the turbocharger and turbo control valves if the fault remains after the hose check
- 6Road test the car with varying throttle, then read the fault code again to see whether it returns
