What does this fault code mean?

The engine control module checks the preheating circuit of the front oxygen sensor on bank 2, which is the back cylinder row beside the cabin, namely cylinders 2, 4, 6 and 8. The code is set when the circuit is short-circuited to ground or has an open circuit.

    Possible causes

    • Open circuit in the power supply lead
    • The power lead is short-circuited to ground
    • Damaged front heated oxygen sensor

    What you can do

    1. 1Read the fault status with a diagnostic tool once the diagnostic is complete. A status of Fault found means the fault is present now
    2. 2Make sure the fuses are intact. Their locations are given in the instruction manual or on the fuse chart
    3. 3Check the connector on the front oxygen sensor for bank 2 for loose contacts and oxidation. Rust solvent spray and grease do not belong in the connector
    4. 4With a multimeter, check that the sensor's power lead is not short-circuited to ground and has no open circuit
    5. 5Replace the front oxygen sensor if the fault remains after checking the connector and wiring

    Symptoms you may notice1

    • The malfunction indicator lamp lights up

    What the fault can affect2

    • Lambda control is switched off
    • Preheating of the front oxygen sensor is switched off

General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
