What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module finds that the control of the heater element in the front oxygen sensor on bank 1, sensor 1, has not worked for a certain period. The code belongs to electrical faults where the resistance is wrong.
Possible causes
- Oxidised connectors with raised contact resistance
- The front oxygen sensor is damaged
What you can do
- 1Make sure the fuses are intact. Their location is on the fuse chart or in the instruction manual
- 2Read the fault code with a diagnostic tool with the engine running and see whether it is active
- 3Check the connector on the front oxygen sensor for bank 1 sensor 1 for oxidation and contact resistance
- 4With a multimeter, check that the wiring to the sensor has no open circuit and no short to ground or supply
- 5Replace the front oxygen sensor if the fault remains after checking the connector and wiring
- 6Have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check the control of the heater element if the fault comes back
Symptoms you may notice1
- The Check engine lamp lights up or behaves abnormally
