What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module registers that the resistance is too high in the heater circuit of the front oxygen sensor on bank 1, sensor 1, and the code is set when that happens. The fault therefore concerns the sensor itself or its connections, and it is checked with the engine running.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance and oxidation in the connectors
- The oxygen sensor has failed
What you can do
- 1Check the wiring and components: look for contact resistance and oxidation in the oxygen sensor connector, and correct what you find
- 2Avoid rust solvent spray and grease in the oxygen sensor connector
- 3Read the fault code with a diagnostic tool and note whether it is active
- 4Make sure the connectors are firmly seated on the sensor and the wiring
- 5If the above does not cure the fault, try a new oxygen sensor
Symptoms you may notice1
- The malfunction indicator lamp lights up
