What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module finds that the front oxygen sensor on bank 1, sensor 1, has not reached normal operating temperature. The code is an internal component fault, so the fault sits in the sensor or in its connections.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance and oxidation in the connectors
- Damaged front heated oxygen sensor
What you can do
- 1Look at the oxygen sensor connector for contact resistance and oxidation, and correct what you find
- 2Read the fault code with a diagnostic tool before and after the repair and note whether it is active
- 3Make sure the fuses are intact. Their location is on the fuse chart or in the instruction manual
- 4With a multimeter, check that the wiring to the sensor has no open circuit and no short to ground
- 5If the connector gave no result, a new oxygen sensor is the next step
Symptoms you may notice1
- The malfunction indicator lamp lights up
