What does this fault code mean?
Although the code is named as a heater control circuit, it concerns how quickly the rear oxygen sensor on bank 2, sensor 2, responds. The engine control module actively switches between rich and lean fuel and air mixture and compares how closely the sensor signal follows those switches. The sensor is judged too slow if it reacts too slowly when the mixture goes from rich to lean.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance or oxidation in the connectors
- Damaged rear heated oxygen sensor
What you can do
- 1Read the fault code with a diagnostic tool after a test drive and note whether it is active
- 2Make sure the fuses are intact. Their location is given in the instruction manual
- 3If you have a diagnostic tool, follow the rear oxygen sensor signal in live data during a test drive and see whether it switches between rich and lean without delay
- 4Look for contact resistance and oxidation in the connector to the rear oxygen sensor on bank 2 sensor 2
- 5If the connector is clean and intact but the signal is still slow, replace the rear oxygen sensor
Symptoms you may notice1
- The Check engine (malfunction indicator) lamp lights up or behaves abnormally
