What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module compares the boost reading from its sensor with atmospheric pressure, which it works out from its own built-in sensor. The code is set when that reading is out of line, whether high, low, erratic or implausible, or when the difference between boost and atmospheric pressure is too large with the ignition on.
Possible causes
- Damaged atmospheric pressure sensor
- Contact resistance or oxidation in the connectors
- Open circuit in one of the charge pressure sensor leads (signal, ground or supply)
- Short circuit to ground or supply voltage in one of the charge pressure sensor leads
- Damaged charge pressure sensor
- Blocked intake system, or the throttle has jammed partly closed
What you can do
- 1Read the fault code with a diagnostic tool with the ignition on and note whether it is active
- 2If you have a diagnostic tool, compare boost pressure and atmospheric pressure in live data with the ignition on and the engine off. They should be roughly equal
- 3Make sure the fuses are intact. Their location is given in the instruction manual
- 4Check the charge pressure sensor connector and wiring for loose connections, oxidation and damage
- 5Check that the throttle is not jammed and that the intake system is not blocked
- 6Have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check the charge pressure sensor if the fault remains
Symptoms you may notice5
- Uneven idle
- Poor performance and lack of power
- Hesitation or surging while driving
- The Check engine (malfunction indicator) lamp lights up or behaves abnormally
- Message text and warning symbol in the display
What the fault can affect2
- A calculated boost pressure is used instead
- Exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) control is lost
