What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module works out the expected air mass from several parameters and compares it with the reading from the mass air flow sensor. The code is set when the air mass correction factor drops too far while the lambda adaptation sits outside a set band.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance or oxidation in the connectors of the mass air flow sensor
- Air leakage in the intake system
- Blocked intake system
- Damaged mass air flow sensor
What you can do
- 1Check the mass air flow sensor connector for contact resistance and oxidation
- 2Check the hoses between the mass air flow sensor and the throttle unit for leaks, damage and loose connections
- 3Check that the intake system is not blocked, for example by contamination in the throttle
- 4If you have a diagnostic tool, read the air mass in live data at idle and when the throttle is opened. The value should follow the throttle
- 5Have a workshop check the mass air flow sensor if the fault remains after checking the intake system
Symptoms you may notice1
- Poor performance and lack of power while driving
What the fault can affect3
- A calculated boost pressure and a calculated air mass are used
- Control of the rear oxygen sensor is switched off
- The misfire diagnostic is switched off
