What does this fault code mean?
Although the code is named as an implausible signal, it concerns the air mass correction factor, which becomes too high. The engine control module works out the expected air mass from several parameters and compares it with the sensor's reading. The fault is set when the factor is too high while the lambda adaptation sits outside a set band.
Possible causes
- Poor contact or oxidation at the air flow sensor connectors
- Air leakage in the intake system
- The intake system is blocked
- The mass air flow sensor is damaged
What you can do
- 1Make sure the mass air flow sensor connector is firmly seated and free from oxidation
- 2Look for leaks in the hoses between the mass air flow sensor and the throttle unit, especially at the connections
- 3Check that the intake system is not blocked by contamination, particularly in the throttle
- 4If you have a diagnostic tool, check that the mass air flow reading in live data is plausible for the engine speed at idle
- 5Have a workshop check the mass air flow sensor if the fault remains after checking the intake system
Symptoms you may notice1
- No noticeable symptoms for the driver
What the fault can affect3
- Air mass is calculated instead of measured
- Control of the rear oxygen sensor is switched off
- The misfire diagnostic is switched off
