What does this fault code mean?

This code is event-controlled and does not indicate a fault in the engine control module. It shows that the signal from the outside temperature sensor is wrong. It is a consequential fault of other codes, and it clears by itself once the conditions no longer apply.

    Possible causes

    • Damaged outside temperature sensor
    • The signal lead is short-circuited to ground
    • The signal lead is short-circuited to supply voltage
    • Open circuit in the signal lead

    What you can do

    1. 1Fix the main fault first, meaning the code for the outside temperature sensor or its circuit
    2. 2Read the other fault codes in the engine control module. If you find a code for the outside temperature sensor or its wiring, start with that one
    3. 3The code does not need to be cleared. It disappears by itself when the conditions no longer apply
    4. 4If the code remains after the main fault has been fixed, check the sensor connector and wiring for damage
    5. 5If you are unsure, have a workshop read the fault codes with diagnostic equipment

    Symptoms you may notice1

    • No noticeable symptoms for the driver

    What the fault can affect1

    • A predefined value is used instead

General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
