What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module compares the outside temperature sensor reading in the left door mirror with the intake air temperature, and sometimes with the fuel and coolant temperatures, after the engine has cooled down completely. The code is set when the difference becomes too large.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance in the connector
- Damaged outside temperature sensor
What you can do
- 1With a diagnostic tool, compare outside and intake air temperature in live data after the car has stood still. They should be roughly equal
- 2Read the fault code with a diagnostic tool with the ignition on and note whether it is active or only stored
- 3With the ignition off, check the sensor connector for looseness, contact resistance and oxidation
- 4Correct what you find in the connector and make sure it is firmly seated
- 5If the connector is clean and intact but the value still deviates, have a workshop check the sensor
Symptoms you may notice2
- The malfunction indicator lamp lights up
- The outside temperature gauge shows the wrong value or does not work
What the fault can affect1
- The outside temperature is calculated instead of measured
