What does this fault code mean?

The code indicates a low signal from outside temperature sensor A, and the condition is that the value deviates too much from the other sensors. After the engine has been off for a long time, the engine control module compares the outside temperature with the air temperature in the mass air flow sensor, the boost pressure sensor temperature, the coolant, the oil and the intake manifold temperature sensor.

    Possible causes

    • Contact resistance in the sensor connector
    • Outside temperature sensor A is damaged

    What you can do

    1. 1If you have a diagnostic tool, read the outside temperature in live data with the ignition on and see whether the value is plausible
    2. 2Read the fault code with a diagnostic tool and note whether it is active or only stored
    3. 3With the ignition off, check the sensor connector and terminals for contact resistance and oxidation
    4. 4Correct what you find in the connector and make sure it is firmly seated
    5. 5If the connector is clean and the fault remains, have a workshop check the sensor

    Symptoms you may notice1

    • No noticeable symptoms for the driver

    What the fault can affect1

    • The outside temperature is calculated instead of measured

General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
