What does this fault code mean?
Although the code names an air temperature sensor, it concerns the signal from the outside temperature sensor, which the engine control module checks against the sensor's operating range. The code is set when that signal is too low.
Possible causes
- The outside temperature sensor is damaged
- The signal lead is short-circuited to ground
- Open circuit in the signal lead
What you can do
- 1Read the fault code with a diagnostic tool with the ignition in position II and note whether it is active
- 2Make sure the fuses are intact. Their location is given in the instruction manual
- 3If you have a diagnostic tool, read the outside temperature in live data and check that the value follows the surroundings
- 4Follow the lead from the sensor and look for breaks or pinch damage, especially where it moves
- 5With a multimeter, check that the signal lead is not short-circuited to ground and has no open circuit. Replace the sensor if the wiring is intact but the fault remains
Symptoms you may notice1
- The outside temperature display is wrong or absent
What the fault can affect1
- A predefined value is used instead
