What does this fault code mean?

Although the code is named a bus or message fault, it concerns the outside temperature signal being below the sensor's allowed range. The engine control module compares the signal with the sensor's operating range and sets the code when it is too low.

    Possible causes

    • The sensor is damaged
    • The signal lead has a short circuit to ground
    • There is an open circuit in the signal lead

    What you can do

    1. 1Read the fault code with a diagnostic tool with the ignition in position II and note whether it is active or only stored
    2. 2Make sure the fuses are intact. Their location is on the fuse chart or in the instruction manual
    3. 3If you have a diagnostic tool, read the outside temperature in live data with the ignition on and see whether it is too low compared with the surroundings
    4. 4With the ignition off, check the sensor connector and connections for oxidation and loose contacts
    5. 5With a multimeter, check that the signal lead is not short-circuited to ground and has no open circuit. Have a workshop check the sensor if the fault remains

    Symptoms you may notice2

    • The outside temperature gauge does not work
    • The outside temperature is displayed as too low

    What the fault can affect1

    • A predefined value is used instead

General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
