What does this fault code mean?
Although the code names an air temperature sensor, it concerns the outside temperature sensor's signal, which the engine control module compares with the sensor's operating range. The code is set when that signal is too high.
Possible causes
- The outside temperature sensor is damaged
- The signal lead is short-circuited to supply voltage
What you can do
- 1Read the fault code with a diagnostic tool with the ignition in position II and note whether it is active
- 2Make sure the fuses are intact. Their location is given in the instruction manual or on the fuse chart
- 3If you have a diagnostic tool, compare the outside temperature in live data with the intake manifold air temperature. If the outside reading is clearly higher, suspect the sensor
- 4With a multimeter, check that the signal lead is not short-circuited to supply voltage
- 5Replace the sensor if the lead is intact but the fault remains
Symptoms you may notice1
- The outside temperature gauge shows the wrong value or does not work
What the fault can affect1
- The value from the engine's intake air temperature sensor in the intake manifold is used instead
