What does this fault code mean?

The code names a bus or message fault, but the condition is actually a signal from the outside temperature sensor that is too high. The engine control module compares the signal with the sensor's operating range and sets the code when the signal is too high.

    Possible causes

    • The outside temperature sensor is damaged
    • The signal lead is short-circuited to supply voltage

    What you can do

    1. 1Read the fault code with a diagnostic tool with the ignition in position II and note whether it is active or only stored
    2. 2Make sure the fuses are intact. Their location is given in the instruction manual
    3. 3If you have a diagnostic tool, compare the outside temperature in live data with the intake air temperature with the car standing still
    4. 4Follow the signal lead from the sensor and look for places where it may have touched supply voltage
    5. 5Replace the sensor if the lead is intact but the fault remains

    Symptoms you may notice1

    • The outside temperature is displayed as too high

    What the fault can affect1

    • The intake air temperature reading from the engine's sensor in the intake manifold is used

General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
