What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) adjusts the intake camshaft position with a changeover valve on bank 1, the cylinder row nearest the front of the engine. The fault code is set when the control signal to the valve is too high. Common causes are a signal wire shorted to voltage or a damaged valve.
Possible causes
- Signal wire to the changeover valve shorted to voltage
- Damaged intake camshaft changeover valve
What you can do
- 1Read off the fault code and note the fault status. ”Fault found” means the fault is present right now
- 2Check that the fuses are intact
- 3Use a multimeter to check that the signal wire to the valve has no voltage with the ignition off
- 4Look for chafing and pinched sections in the valve wiring, and check that the connector is secure and clean
- 5If you have a diagnostic tool: activate the intake changeover valve and check that it responds when commanded
- 6If the fault returns, have a workshop check the valve and the control module
Symptoms you may notice5
- Check engine lamp (MIL) lights up
- Uneven idle
- The engine can stall while driving, during acceleration, deceleration or at steady speed
- The car lacks power, especially when pulling away from a standstill
- Higher exhaust emissions
What the fault can affect1
- Intake camshaft control is switched off
General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
