What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) adjusts the exhaust camshaft position with a changeover valve on bank 1, the cylinder row nearest the front. The fault code is set when the control signal to the valve is too low. Common causes are poor contact in the connectors or a signal or supply wire shorted to ground.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance in the connectors
- Signal wire shorted to ground
- Voltage supply wire to the valve shorted to ground
- Damaged exhaust camshaft changeover valve
What you can do
- 1Check that the fuse for the valve circuit is intact. If it has blown, use a multimeter to check whether the wire is shorted to ground
- 2Check the connector at the changeover valve for loose connections, oxidation and contact resistance
- 3Use a multimeter to check that the wires to the valve are not shorted to ground, with the connectors disconnected
- 4Measure the valve resistance if the connector and wiring are in order, or have a workshop do it
- 5After the repair, check that the fault code does not come back

- Check engine lamp (MIL) lights up
- Uneven idle
- Poor performance and lack of power, especially when pulling away
- The engine can stall while driving, during acceleration, deceleration or at steady speed
