What does this fault code mean?
The boost pressure sensor (TMAP) measures both boost pressure and air temperature at the charge air cooler. The engine control module (ECM) stores the highest temperature at high boost and the lowest at low boost. The difference between them must be large enough. If it is too small, the sensor signal is considered unreliable and the fault code is set.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance, oxidation or a loose connection at the boost pressure sensor
- Internal short circuit in the boost pressure sensor (TMAP)
- Damaged boost pressure sensor (TMAP)
What you can do
- 1Start with the boost pressure sensor connector: it should be secure, dry and free from corrosion
- 2Look for chafed or pinched wiring from the sensor
- 3If you have a diagnostic tool: read the boost pressure sensor temperature in live data with the engine running, and check that it changes clearly between idle and hard acceleration
- 4If the fault returns after the connector has been checked, have a workshop check the boost pressure sensor
Symptoms you may notice1
- No noticeable symptoms for the driver
What the fault can affect1
- The engine control module uses a calculated value instead of the measured temperature
