What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) adjusts the exhaust camshaft position with a changeover valve on bank 1, the cylinder row nearest the front. The fault code is set when the control signal to the valve is too high. The causes are a signal wire shorted to voltage or a damaged valve.
Possible causes
- Signal wire to the changeover valve shorted to voltage
- Damaged exhaust camshaft changeover valve
What you can do
- 1Read off the fault code and check whether the fault is active right now or has only been present earlier
- 2Check that the fuses for the engine control circuits are intact
- 3Use a multimeter to check whether the signal wire to the exhaust valve has contact with voltage with the ignition off
- 4Check the connector at the exhaust valve and the wiring leading to it
- 5If you have a diagnostic tool, activate the exhaust valve and listen or feel for it responding
- 6If the fault returns after these checks, have a workshop check the valve
Symptoms you may notice4
- Check engine lamp (MIL) lights up
- Uneven idle
- Poor performance and lack of power
- The engine can stall while driving, during acceleration, deceleration or at steady speed
What the fault can affect1
- Exhaust camshaft control is switched off
