What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) adjusts the intake camshaft position with a changeover valve on bank 2, the rear cylinder row close to the passenger compartment. The fault code is set when the control signal to the valve is missing. This can be an open circuit in the signal or supply wire, or a damaged valve.
Possible causes
- Open circuit in the signal wire to the changeover valve
- Open circuit in the voltage supply wire to the changeover valve
- Damaged intake camshaft changeover valve
What you can do
- 1Check the fuse for the circuit. If it has blown, use a multimeter to check that the wire is not shorted to ground
- 2Have a workshop measure the valve resistance if the connector is in order
- 3Use a multimeter to check that the signal and supply wires to the valve have no open circuit
- 4Check the valve connector for loose connections and corrosion
- 5If you have a diagnostic tool: read the fault status and activate the valve to see whether it responds
- 6If the fault remains, have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check the control module
Symptoms you may notice4
- Check engine lamp (MIL) lights up
- Uneven idle
- Poor performance
- The engine can stall while driving
What the fault can affect1
- Intake camshaft control is switched off
