What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) adjusts the intake camshaft position with a changeover valve on bank 2, the rear cylinder row close to the passenger compartment. The fault code is set when the control signal to the valve is too low. The causes can be poor contact or a signal or supply wire shorted to ground.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance in the connectors
- Signal wire shorted to ground
- Supply wire to the valve shorted to ground
- Damaged intake camshaft changeover valve
What you can do
- 1Check that the fuse for the valve circuit is intact. If it has blown, use a multimeter to check whether the wire is shorted to ground
- 2Check the valve connector for contact resistance and oxidation, and make sure it is seated firmly
- 3Have a workshop measure the valve resistance
- 4With the connectors disconnected, use a multimeter to check that the signal wire is not shorted to ground
- 5If the fault remains after these checks, have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check the control module
Symptoms you may notice4
- Check engine lamp (MIL) lights up
- Uneven idle
- Poor performance
- The engine can stall while driving
What the fault can affect1
- Intake camshaft control is switched off
