Show models by year and engine (2)
What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) adjusts the exhaust camshaft position on bank 2, the cylinder row furthest to the rear, with a changeover valve. The fault code is set when the control signal to the valve is missing. This can be an open circuit in the signal or supply wire, or a damaged valve.
Possible causes
- Open circuit in the signal wire to the changeover valve
- Open circuit in the voltage supply wire to the changeover valve
- Damaged exhaust camshaft changeover valve
What you can do
- 1Check the fuse for the circuit. If it has blown, use a multimeter to check that the wire is not shorted to ground
- 2Measure the valve resistance if the connector and wiring are in order, or have a workshop do it
- 3Use a multimeter to check that the signal and supply wires to the valve have no open circuit
- 4Check the exhaust valve connector for loose connections and corrosion
- 5Have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check the control module if the fault remains
Symptoms you may notice4
- Check engine lamp (MIL) lights up
- Uneven idle
- Poor performance
- The engine can stall while driving
What the fault can affect1
- Exhaust camshaft control is switched off
