What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) adjusts the exhaust camshaft position on bank 2 with a changeover valve. The fault code is set when the control signal to the valve is too low. The causes are poor contact, or a wire to the valve shorted to ground.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance in the connectors
- Signal wire shorted to ground
- Voltage supply wire shorted to ground
- Damaged exhaust camshaft changeover valve
What you can do
- 1Check the fuse for the valve circuit. If it has blown, use a multimeter to look for a short to ground in the wire
- 2Check the valve connector for contact resistance and oxidation, and press it firmly into place
- 3Measure the valve resistance, or have a workshop do it
- 4With the connectors disconnected, use a multimeter to check that the signal and supply wires are not shorted to ground or to voltage
- 5If the fault remains after these checks, have a workshop with diagnostic equipment check the control module
Symptoms you may notice4
- Check engine lamp (MIL) lights up
- Uneven idle
- Poor performance
- The engine can stall while driving
What the fault can affect1
- Exhaust camshaft control is switched off
