What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) controls fuel pressure through the fuel pump control module and requests a target pressure. It is set when the pressure measured at the rail rises above what was requested for a sustained period. The cause can be faulty pump control, a blocked return line, or a damaged sensor or valve.
Possible causes
- Voltage supply to the fuel pump shorted to voltage
- Damaged fuel pressure sensor
- Damaged fuel pump control module or fuel pump
- Damaged fuel pressure control valve
- Blocked fuel return line
- Open circuit in the signal wires to the fuel pressure control valve
What you can do
- 1Check the connectors at the fuel pressure sensor and the fuel pump for oxidation and loose contacts
- 2Use a multimeter to check that the supply wire to the fuel pump has no voltage with the ignition off
- 3Check that the fuel lines, especially the return line, are not pinched or blocked
- 4If you have a diagnostic tool: read the fuel pressure and the fuel pump duty cycle in live data at idle, and see whether the pressure rises too high
- 5Have a workshop check the fuel pressure with a gauge, and if the fault remains, also the fuel pressure sensor and control valve
- 6Have a workshop check the fuel pump control module if nothing above gives a result

- Check engine lamp (MIL) lights up
- A text message is shown in the display
- Poor performance and lack of power
- The engine can stall while driving
- The engine is hard to start or does not start at all
What the fault can affect2
- Engine torque may be limited
- The fuel pump is controlled using a calculated fuel pressure instead of the measured one
