What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) controls fuel pressure through the fuel pump control module according to a requested pressure. The fault code is set when the pressure varies or pulsates too much, when the target pressure cannot be reached, or or when the control valve's signal reads wrong. The causes can be air or blocked lines, leaks, or a fault in the pump, sensor or valve.
Possible causes
- Air in the fuel lines
- Blocked fuel lines or a clogged fuel filter
- Leak in the fuel lines or the fuel system
- Damaged fuel pressure sensor
- Damaged fuel pump or fuel pump control module
- Damaged fuel pressure control valve
What you can do
- 1Make sure there is enough fuel in the tank
- 2Check the fuel lines and fuel filter for blockage and leaks
- 3Check the connectors at the fuel pump and the fuel pressure sensor for contact resistance and oxidation
- 4If you have a diagnostic tool: read the fuel pressure in live data with the engine running, and see whether it varies or pulsates when it should be steady
- 5Have a workshop measure the fuel pressure with a gauge and check the fuel pump and the fuel pump control module
- 6Have a workshop check the fuel pressure sensor and the fuel pressure control valve if the pump is in order
Symptoms you may notice5
- Check engine lamp (MIL) lights up
- Poor performance and lack of power
- The engine can stall while driving
- The engine is hard to start or does not start at all
- A text message is shown in the display
What the fault can affect1
- The fuel pump is controlled using a calculated pressure instead of the measured one
