What does this fault code mean?

The engine control module (ECM) compares the fuel pressure on the low-pressure side with the lowest allowed pressure while the engine is running. The pressure depends on engine load and speed. The fault code is set when the pressure deviates too much from the target for a certain time.

    Possible causes

    • Clogged high-pressure pump
    • Clogged check valve in the inlet pipe
    • Air in the fuel system
    • Clogged fuel filter
    • Leak on the low-pressure side or in the fuel lines
    • Damaged fuel pressure sensor, fuel pump or fuel pump control module

    What you can do

    1. 1Make sure there is enough fuel in the tank
    2. 2Look for leaks in the fuel lines on the low-pressure side
    3. 3Check the fuel filter for blockage
    4. 4Check the connectors at the fuel pump and the fuel pressure sensor for contact resistance and oxidation
    5. 5If you have a diagnostic tool: read the fuel pressure in live data with the engine running and see whether it follows the engine load
    6. 6Have a workshop check the fuel pump and its control module if the fault remains

    Symptoms you may notice5

    • The engine does not start, it only cranks
    • The engine can stall at idle or while driving
    • Uneven idle
    • Check engine lamp (MIL) lights up
    • A text message is shown in the display

    What the fault can affect1

    • The fuel pump is controlled using a calculated value instead of the measured one

General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
