What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) requests a fuel pressure and controls the fuel pump through the fuel pump control module. The fault code is set when the pressure reported by the sensor is too high compared with the requested pressure for a certain time, while the engine runs. The cause can be a supply wire shorted to voltage, or a damaged sensor or pump control module.
Possible causes
- Supply wire to the fuel pump shorted to voltage
- Damaged fuel pressure sensor
- Damaged fuel pump control module
What you can do
- 1Use a multimeter to check that the supply wire to the fuel pump has no voltage with the ignition off
- 2Make sure the connectors to the fuel pump and the sensor are secure and clean
- 3If you have a diagnostic tool: compare the fuel pressure in live data with the requested pressure while the engine runs
- 4Have a workshop measure the fuel pressure with a gauge and, if it is wrong, check the sensor and the fuel pump control module
Symptoms you may notice3
- Check engine lamp (MIL) lights up
- The car lacks power and performs poorly
- The engine can stall while driving
