What does this fault code mean?
The boost pressure sensor measures the air temperature between the turbocharger and the throttle. The engine control module (ECM) compares it with the coolant temperature, the outside temperature and the mass air flow sensor value. The fault code is set when the reading deviates too much and the signal is too high.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance in the connector
- Damaged air temperature sensor, built into the boost pressure sensor
- Signal wire shorted to voltage
- Damaged air pressure and air temperature sensor, which is the boost pressure sensor
What you can do
- 1Use a multimeter to check that the signal wire from the sensor has no voltage with the ignition off
- 2Check the boost pressure sensor connector for contact resistance and oxidation
- 3If you have a diagnostic tool: compare the air temperature from the boost pressure sensor with the mass air flow sensor value in live data with the engine running
- 4Have a workshop check the boost pressure sensor if the fault returns
Symptoms you may notice3
- The car lacks power, especially when pulling away
- The engine hesitates, surges or runs jerkily while driving
- Check engine lamp (MIL) lights up
What the fault can affect1
- The air temperature between the turbo and the throttle is set equal to the mass air flow sensor value
General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
