What does this fault code mean?
The ECM reads the position sensor signal for the compressor bypass valve. The code is stored when the control signal is too low. The compressor may then be switched off and the engine can respond sluggishly at low engine speeds.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance or corrosion in the connector terminals
- Signal wire shorted to ground
- Supply wire shorted to ground
- Damaged position sensor for the bypass valve
What you can do
- 1Read and note the code, clear it and road test to see whether it returns
- 2Check that the connectors at the valve are fully seated and free from corrosion
- 3Look for chafed or pinched wiring between the valve and the engine control module
- 4With a multimeter, check that the signal and supply wires are not shorted to ground
- 5If you have diagnostic equipment, read the bypass valve position in live data and check that it changes when the throttle is varied
- 6If the fault remains, have a workshop check the valve and its position sensor
Symptoms you may notice2
- Engine lacks power, especially when pulling away from a standstill
- Engine hesitates, surges or runs unevenly during acceleration, deceleration and steady speed
What the fault can affect2
- The compressor is switched off
- Performance drops at low engine speeds
