What does this fault code mean?
The engine control module (ECM) compares the bypass valve position with the position it requests. The code is stored when the difference is too large during control, with the engine running. It is a mechanical fault in the valve actuator, meaning the valve does not follow the control as it should. The valve may be damaged or dirty.
Possible causes
- Compressor bypass valve is damaged
- Compressor bypass valve is dirty
What you can do
- 1Read and note the code, clear it and road test to see whether it returns
- 2Check the connections to the bypass valve: they should be fully seated and free from corrosion
- 3Look for dirt or sticking in the bypass valve and the compressor throttle, and clean them if necessary
- 4Have a workshop check the valve actuator with diagnostic equipment if the fault remains
Symptoms you may notice2
- The engine lacks power and runs poorly
- The engine hesitates or runs unevenly, especially when slowing down
