What does this fault code mean?
The ECM reads the output of the boost pressure sensor. If the boost sensor reading sits inside its usual band yet is lower than a value calculated from the barometric pressure sensor, the code is stored. The result is that boost pressure is limited, so the engine produces less power.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance or corrosion in the connections
- Boost pressure sensor is loose
- Boost pressure sensor is damaged
What you can do
- 1Read and note the code, clear it and road test to see whether it returns
- 2Check the connector at the boost pressure sensor: it should be fully engaged and free from corrosion
- 3Check that the boost pressure sensor is firmly seated in its mounting and has not come loose
- 4If you have diagnostic equipment, with the ignition on the boost pressure should show roughly the same value as atmospheric pressure, and with the engine idling it should read lower
- 5If the fault remains and the sensor is damaged, have a workshop replace the boost pressure sensor
Symptoms you may notice2
- The car runs poorly and lacks power
- Engine warning lamp (check engine) lit or behaving abnormally
What the fault can affect1
- Boost pressure is limited
