What does this fault code mean?
The ECM compares the filtered boost pressure signal with the reading from the barometric pressure sensor inside the control module. The code is stored when the difference between them is too large, and When the fault is present the control module replaces the boost reading with the barometric value, which switches off the compressor and reduces performance at low engine speeds.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance or corrosion in the connections
- Open circuit in the signal or ground wire
- Boost pressure sensor is damaged
What you can do
- 1Read and note the code, clear it and road test to see whether it returns
- 2Check that the connector at boost pressure sensor B is fully engaged and free from corrosion and moisture
- 3Look for chafed or broken wiring to the sensor, especially where it bends
- 4With a multimeter, check that the signal and ground wires to the sensor have continuity
- 5If you have diagnostic equipment, compare boost sensor B with the barometric reading in live data at idle
- 6If the fault remains, have a workshop check the sensor and replace it if it is damaged
Symptoms you may notice2
- Engine warning lamp (check engine) lit or behaving abnormally
- The car lacks power and runs poorly
What the fault can affect3
- The compressor is switched off
- The boost value is replaced by the barometric pressure reading
- Performance drops at low engine speeds
General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
