What does this fault code mean?
The ECM checks the signal ground connected to the mass air flow sensor and stores the code when that ground is wrong. In this case the fault is a short to ground on the supply wire that comes from the system relay, meaning that wire has made contact with the vehicle body.
Possible causes
- Short to ground on the voltage supply wire from the system relay
What you can do
- 1Read and note the code, clear it and road test to see whether it returns
- 2Check that the relevant fuses are intact
- 3With a multimeter, check that the supply wire from the system relay to the sensor is not touching the body earth
- 4Look for chafing or pinched wiring along the route from the relay to the mass air flow sensor
- 5If the fault remains, have a workshop check the relay wiring and the sensor
Symptoms you may notice1
- Engine warning lamp (check engine) lit or behaving abnormally
