What does this fault code mean?
The ECM checks the signal ground to the mass air flow sensor and stores the code when it is incorrect. Here the fault is a short to battery voltage, meaning the ground wire has come into contact with a live supply. A damaged sensor can also cause the fault.
Possible causes
- Ground wire shorted to supply voltage
- Damaged mass air flow sensor
What you can do
- 1Read and note the code, clear it and road test to see whether it returns
- 2Make sure the fuses for the air flow sensor circuit are intact
- 3With a multimeter, check that the ground wire to the mass air flow sensor is not touching a live wire
- 4Look for chafing or pinched wiring near the mass air flow sensor
- 5If the fault remains, have a workshop check the mass air flow sensor
Symptoms you may notice1
- Engine warning lamp (check engine) lit or behaving abnormally
