What does this fault code mean?

This is an event-driven code, meaning an information code that does not point to a fault in the module where it is active. It is stored when the air flow sensor signal is wrong during driving. The code is a knock-on effect of another fault, so the underlying fault is repaired first. It normally does not need clearing, because it disappears once the conditions no longer apply.

    Possible causes

    • Loose connection or corrosion in the connections
    • Contact resistance in the connector terminals on the mass air flow sensor
    • Damaged mass air flow sensor
    • Dirty mass air flow sensor
    • Air duct has come loose between the mass air flow sensor and the throttle body

    What you can do

    1. 1Read the other fault codes stored in the control module and look for air flow or intake faults, since the underlying fault should be repaired first
    2. 2Check that the connectors at the mass air flow sensor are fully engaged and free from corrosion
    3. 3Look for cracks and loose clamps on the air duct between the mass air flow sensor and the throttle body
    4. 4Check whether the mass air flow sensor is dirty
    5. 5If the code comes back after the underlying fault is repaired, have a workshop check the mass air flow sensor

    Symptoms you may notice1

    • No noticeable symptoms for the driver

General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
