What does this fault code mean?
The ECM works out the expected air mass from several inputs and compares it with the reading from the mass air flow sensor. The code is stored when the correction factor for air mass becomes too high while the lambda adaptation sits above or below a set figure. The fault concerns a signal that stays at a constant low level, and the control module then works with calculated values.
Possible causes
- Poor contact or oxidation in the mass air flow sensor connector
- Leak in the intake system
- Intake system blocked
- Faulty mass air flow sensor
What you can do
- 1Read and note the code, clear it and road test to see whether it returns
- 2Make sure the mass air flow sensor connector is fully engaged and clean
- 3Look for cracks and leaks in the intake hoses between the sensor and the throttle body
- 4Check that the intake system is not blocked, for example by deposits at the throttle
- 5Have a workshop check the mass air flow sensor once the intake system is in order
Symptoms you may notice1
- Eco indicator lamp lit
What the fault can affect3
- Calculated boost pressure and calculated air mass are used
- Rear lambda sensor control is switched off
- Misfire diagnosis is switched off
