What does this fault code mean?
The ECM compares the calculated air mass with the reading from the mass air flow sensor. If the correction factor becomes too low and the lambda adaptation sits above or below a fixed figure, the code is stored. The fault concerns a signal that stays at a constant high level, and among the results are calculated values for boost pressure and air mass.
Possible causes
- Oxidised or high-resistance connector terminals at the mass air flow sensor
- Leak in the intake air system
- Obstructed intake system
- Damaged mass air flow sensor
What you can do
- 1Read and note the code, clear it and road test to see whether it returns
- 2Check the connector at the mass air flow sensor for oxidation and make sure it is firmly seated
- 3Look for leaks in the hoses and joints between the mass air flow sensor and the throttle body
- 4Look for obstructions in the intake system, such as dirt on the throttle
- 5Have a workshop check the mass air flow sensor if the fault persists once the intake has been checked
Symptoms you may notice1
- Eco indicator lamp lit
What the fault can affect3
- The control module uses calculated boost pressure and calculated air mass
- Rear lambda sensor regulation is disabled
- Misfire diagnosis is disabled
