What does this fault code mean?
The ECM monitors the temperature sensor signal inside the mass air flow sensor and stores the code when that signal is too low. The control module then uses a calculated value in place of the measured temperature, and a text message may appear in the display.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance, corrosion or a break in the connections
- Signal wire shorted to ground
- Damaged intake air temperature sensor inside the mass air flow sensor
What you can do
- 1Read and note the code, clear it and road test to see whether it returns
- 2Check that the connector at the mass air flow sensor sits firmly and is free from oxidation and play
- 3With a multimeter, check that the signal wire from the mass air flow sensor has no break and is not shorted to ground
- 4If you have diagnostic equipment, read the temperature value of the mass air flow sensor in live data at idle and check that it is reasonable
- 5If the fault remains, have a workshop check the mass air flow sensor
Symptoms you may notice1
- Text message in the display
What the fault can affect1
- The control module uses a calculated value in place of the measured temperature
