What does this fault code mean?
The ECM monitors the temperature sensor signal inside the mass air flow sensor and stores the code when that signal is too high. The control module then works out a calculated value in place of the measured temperature.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance, corrosion or a break in the connections
- Signal wire shorted to supply voltage
- Damaged intake air temperature sensor inside the mass air flow sensor
What you can do
- 1Read and note the code, clear it and road test to see whether it returns
- 2Check that the connections are fully seated and free from corrosion and play
- 3With a multimeter, check that the signal wire has no break and is not shorted to supply voltage
- 4With a multimeter, check that the ground wire has no break
- 5If you have diagnostic equipment, read the temperature value in live data at idle and check that it is reasonable
- 6If the fault remains, have a workshop check the mass air flow sensor
