What does this fault code mean?
The ECM reads the intake pressure from an air pressure sensor and compares it with a fixed reference. A stored code results when the sensor reads above the expected level. The fault may lie in a faulty hose connection, a contact problem, a damaged sensor, a break in the signal or ground wire, or a short to supply voltage.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance and oxidation in the connections
- Incorrect hose connection
- Air pressure sensor in the intake pipe is damaged
- Break in the signal or ground wire
- Signal wire shorted to supply voltage
What you can do
- 1Read and note the code, clear it and road test to see whether it returns
- 2Check that the hoses on the intake pipe are correctly fitted and not leaking
- 3Check that the pressure sensor connector is firmly seated and free from oxidation and play
- 4With a multimeter, check that the signal wire is not shorted to supply voltage and that the ground wire has no break
- 5If you have diagnostic equipment, with the ignition on the intake pressure in live data should match atmospheric pressure, and with the engine idling it should read lower
- 6If the fault remains, have a workshop check the pressure sensor
Symptoms you may notice1
- Engine warning lamp (check engine) lit or behaving abnormally
What the fault can affect2
- The signal from the intake pipe air pressure sensor is held at a fixed value
- Load and air flow are calculated without the air pressure sensor signal
