What does this fault code mean?
The ECM sets the MAP sensor reading against atmospheric pressure, which it takes from an atmospheric pressure sensor built into the control module. The code is stored when the boost pressure is outside permitted limits, or when the difference between boost and atmospheric pressure at ignition on is too large.
Possible causes
- Contact resistance, oxidation or loose connections
- Break in the signal wire
- Break in the supply wire to the boost pressure sensor
- Signal wire shorted to ground
- Boost pressure sensor (MAP) is damaged
What you can do
- 1Read and note the code, clear it and road test to see whether it returns
- 2Check that the connector at the boost pressure sensor is fully engaged and free from oxidation and play
- 3With a multimeter, check that the signal and supply wires to the boost pressure sensor have no break
- 4With a multimeter, check that the signal wire is not shorted to ground
- 5If you have diagnostic equipment, compare boost pressure with atmospheric pressure in live data with the ignition on
- 6If the fault remains, have a workshop check the boost pressure sensor
Symptoms you may notice1
- Engine warning lamp (check engine) lit or behaving abnormally
What the fault can affect1
- Boost pressure is calculated instead of measured
