What does this fault code mean?
The ECM checks boost against ambient pressure using the MAP sensor. The code is stored when the boost pressure is outside permitted limits or unreasonable compared with atmospheric pressure.
Possible causes
- Signal wire shorted to supply voltage
- Boost pressure sensor (MAP) is damaged
What you can do
- 1Read and note the code, clear it and road test to see whether it returns
- 2Check that the connector at the boost pressure sensor sits firmly and is free from oxidation
- 3With a multimeter, check that the signal wire to the boost pressure sensor is not shorted to supply voltage
- 4If you have diagnostic equipment, compare boost pressure with atmospheric pressure in live data with the ignition on
- 5If the fault remains, have a workshop check or replace the boost pressure sensor
Symptoms you may notice1
- Engine warning lamp (check engine) lit or behaving abnormally
What the fault can affect1
- Boost pressure is calculated instead of measured
General guidance for car owners. Diagnosis on the car can point to a different cause.
